The Fullness of Me

What is this emotion
Deep within your heart
Tearing you apart
Unsure of where to start

What is this longing
Deep inside your soul
Tired of letting go
Doubting what you know

I am still here
Within this wasteland
And I have seen
The depth of your desire
You’ve just beheld the surface of
My beauty and My Love,
A costly pearl
Why would you search for more
When all you’re longing for
Is this –
The fullness of Me

You have yet to abandon
Every selfish inclination
Every faithless reservation
Behold this invitation

Why are you waiting?
Pacing the floor
With mediocrity in store
When I offer so much more

You sold everything you had
For this field of My delight
Why then set aside your passion
When this Glory is in sight

Seek to know Me
You will find Me
I will be
Found by you
Seek to know Me
You will find Me
When you search with all your heart

I am still here
Within this wasteland
And I have seen
The depth of your desire
You’ve just beheld the surface of
My beauty and My Love
A costly pearl
Why would you search for more
When all you’re longing for
Is this –
The fullness of Me

The story behind the song...

"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought it.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything and bought it."
- MATTHEW 13:44-45

So I've been thinking. Many of us have caught a glimpse of the beauty of our Savior, our Pearl of Great Price. And we've sold everything we had, denied ourselves, given our lives to serve the One who first gave His life for us.

And I've also been thinking - many precious stones look beautiful on the outside, but a diligent, steadfast heart will seek to know the true value of the prize that he has discovered. Our Prize is not only beautiful on the surface. It is inherently Beautiful, Perfect, and Holy. It is costly.

When when we doubt, when we begin to seek after other "treasures" of this world to satisfy our needs, when we settle for spiritual mediocrity - these instances make it evident that we have forgotten the costly nature of what we have received in Jesus Christ. Life abundant. Why would we search for more? We should instead be seeking to know this Satisying Love at a deeper level. And that's why I love Jeremiah 29:13 - "If you seek Me, you will find Me, when you search for Me with all of your heart." Seek to know Him. Ask Him to show the fullness of Himself. You won't be disappointed. Behold, in Him, EVERY desire of your heart.

(If you're confused about the structure of this song... you're not weird. Yes, there are two choruses. Yes, it is fun to break the typical song structure sometimes. lol)
